1) All attendees must have attended the HIV Prevention Counseling Series: The Facts and the Fundamentals classes in their entirety in the state of Virginia in the past 12 months. The information provided in these courses build upon each other.
2) To be considered for this class, please ensure that we have a copy of all of your certificates of completion from The Facts live and online module sessions and the Fundamental's training. Once all certificates of completion have been uploaded, you will be provided the event access code. Applicants will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Course Description:
The Fundamentals of Prevention Counseling is a one-day course that provides guidelines and skill-building opportunities for professionals who implement prevention counseling and HIV antibody testing. This workshop incorporates recommendations and strategies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for personalizing prevention counseling sessions before and after testing for HIV. The Facts and The Fundamentals course is a prerequisite for this course.
UPON COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM, THE PARTICIPANT WILL BE ABLE TO:
Identify strategies to support clients in making behavior changes that will reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV
Demonstrate through practice sessions the six steps of prevention counseling
Support the client in making a decision about testing and preparing for the result
Assist the client who tests to begin to integrate the result emotionally, behaviorally, and socially

Course Description
This program will provide basic training in health insurance basics, Medicare/Medicaid & Medicaid Expansion, and SSI/SSDI/SOAR programs. This program provides a basic overview of TANF, SNAP, and similar social welfare programs, housing services including HOPWA and other programs, and an overview of VAMAP (Formerly ADAP)
This program is designed for eligibility specialists, medical and non-medical case managers, housing case managers, CHARLI case managers, patient navigators, community health workers, nurses, and support staff who assist clients in navigating social welfare programs. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
Correctly identify clients who may be eligible for Medicaid in Virginia and ways to enroll clients
Define TANF, SNAP, WIC, and other programs
Explain differences in eligibility and enrollment processes for housing programs
Define eligibility criteria and application procedure for the four VAMAP programs available in Virginia
Explain the differences between SSI & SSDI
Identify what type of clients are appropriate for the SOAR program and where to find additional services for SOAR
Correctly name the various parts of Medicare, what's covered by each type, enrollment processes, and guidelines, as well as resources for helping to pay for Medicare.

HIV Prevention Series: The Facts (Virtual)
The Facts is a hybrid course that provides information concerning the spectrum of HIV disease, HIV antibody testing, and developments in rapid testing, legal issues, disclosure assistance (partner counseling and referral services), and prevention. This course will be delivered using synchronous and asynchronous modalities. Session 1 will be at the time listed above during a synchronous virtual session. Then you will be provided links to the VA Train system to complete online learning modules.

Support the client in making a decision about testing and preparing for the result
Assist the client who tests to begin to integrate the result emotionally, behaviorally, and socially
Certificate of Completion: Certificates will be provided upon completion of this program which confirms 6.5 hours of training.
Requirements and Pre-requisites:
1) All attendees must have attended Prevention Counseling Series: Facts within the state of Virginia in the past 12 months in order to attend this Fundamentals course, as the information provided in this course builds upon Facts.
2) To be considered for this class, please upload all of your certificates of completion for The Facts live and online module sessions. Once all certificates of completion have been uploaded, you will be provided the event access code. Applicants will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Facts is a hybrid course that provides information concerning the spectrum of HIV disease, HIV antibody testing, and developments in rapid testing, legal issues, disclosure assistance (partner counseling and referral services), and prevention. This course will be delivered using synchronous and asynchronous modalities. Session 1 will be at the time listed above during a synchronous virtual session. Then you will be provided links to the VA Train system to complete online learning modules.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) was first observed on June 27, 1995. This is a day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. During this program, a panel of experts will share their experience in establishing and expanding access to HIV testing services in both clinical and community settings with a focus on both lessons learned and best practices for increasing access to HIV testing. This call will help case managers share best practices and strategies for keeping clients engaged in care and virally suppressed.
At the request of Case Management teams on the May call, the June call will continue the discussions started in May regarding continuity of care and coordination of services during funding changes. Teams have committed bringing lists of local resources to meet housing, transportation, food, mental health, substance use and other support services formerly funded by the Virginia Ryan White Part B Program. We will divide into regional breakouts to share these resources and build regional resource lists.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released updated guidelines for nonoccupational postexposure prophylaxis (nPEP) for HIV in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The guidelines replace those issued in 2016 and reflect current evidence, newer antiretroviral options, and updated recommendations for follow-up care and transition to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) when appropriate.

The Fundamentals of Prevention Counseling is a one-day course that provides guidelines and skill-building opportunities for professionals who implement prevention counseling and HIV antibody testing. This workshop incorporates recommendations and strategies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for personalizing prevention counseling sessions before and after testing for HIV. The Facts and The Fundamentals course is a prerequisite for this course.
