This program has been specifically designed for Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services. It will provide an overview of basics including HIV disease progression, transmission routes, and treatment options. It will also provide an overview of biomedical and behavioral interventions for the prevention of HIV. Then it will provide a review of recent advancements in HIV prevention and treatment including long-term injectables. Finally, it will provide insights on the intersections of HIV with mental health and substance use.
Learning Objectives: Upon completing this program, participants will be able to:
Describe the differences between HIV and AIDS
Explore epidemiological data for HIV
Identify transmission routes and effective prevention methods
Explain recent advancements in HIV treatment and prevention including long-term injectables, PrEP, PEP, & U=U
Identify local, state, and national resources for further HIV testing, treatment and education
