Description
Pre-requisite: This class is only designed for HIV testers already in practice who simply need training on OraSure as the Virginia HIV Testing Algorithm switches from from Determine to OraQuick Rapid HIV Test. Successful completion of Facts, Fundamentals of Prevention Counseling, and Fundamentals of Waived Rapid HIV Testing is required to be eligible to enroll in this class. If you are a brand new tester, please enroll in those classes instead.
Course Description: The training provides learner with the fundamental skills necessary to perform the OraQuick Rapid HIV tests and the accompanying external quality controls. The course will also cover updated documentation and QA protocols for incorporating OraQuick into testing programs.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
Demonstrate safe work practices
Identify the QA steps required before, during, and after rapid HIV testing
List the steps of the HIV prevention counseling protocol in conducting the rapid HIV test
Perform and interpret a waived rapid HIV test correctly
Demonstrate finger sticking and sample collection
Demonstrate the integration of HIV counseling into the rapid testing process.
Intended Audience
Professionals currently conducting rapid HIV testing using the Abbott Determine rapid HIV test who need to learn the OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV Test in order to me VDH's new HIV testing algorithm requirements.
